Thursday! May 08 2003 // 2:19 pm // the weirdViolet Books please *do* visit the Violet Books Art Museum. any of the three wings is sure to please. i got lost for hours, and ended up seeing every image in the dang thing, and you don’t hear me complaining. the illustrations themselves are worth the tour, but what spurred me on to the very end was the versant commentary Salmonson has included with almost every image. the Gallery of Rare Dustwrappers & Decorative Bindings on Fantasies, Swashbucklers & Mysteries has a whole section of Portraits of She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed, or, Ayesha… She… the H. Rider Haggard creation. in the Museum of the Golden Age of Book Illustration i found this image of La Yaga, one of the most famous of lady pirates. and in the Biographical Gallery of Western Adventure Dustwrappers there is a Zane Grey gallery. also worth a gander is the Violet Books e-zine, The Weird Review. (and catalogs upon catalogs of books for sale.) :::: |
